Pangbourne Recreation Ground Play Area

Pangbourne childrens playground and recreation area

One of my favourite places to go to is the Pangbourne Recreation Ground. It is a beautiful large green space stretching over about  8 acre’s of land.  It is right by the  River Thames adjacent to the Adventure Dolphin Centre.  My favourite place is to take my pictures with the beautiful view of the Whitchurch Bridge running over the River Thames.  It is truly something out of a magazine.

I love going with the children, a picnic basket, blanket and some balls to play footie with my kids who love the openness and are able to run free with such a picturesque setting.  It is usually filled with couples, families, young and elderly some with their dogs, others jogging or playing games and others fishing once the season starts.

It gets even bigger at watching the various boats big, small, cruisers, barges going past all very eager to wave at us on the grass.

In the top corner of the recreation grounds by the sports hall is a gorgeous childrens playground equipped with  a rubberised bark flooring enclosed so that children don’t run out.  There are  swings, rope swing, a climbing frames for toddlers and older children, a witches hat, rockers, a pirate play boat, monkey bars and a fireman’s pole.

Outside the gated play area is yet another large playing field which is often used for football training, games but also a great space for other ball games, frisby or kites.  There is a  fabulous zip line, basketball and football nets, tennis courts and a nice walk along the Thames River.  Truly something for everyone.

There is free parking available at the Pangbourne Recreation Area itself which is accessible via a narrow (almost hidden) access road at the end of Thames Avenue (gates open 8am – 8pm).  Here there is toilet facilities which are open between 8am-6pm.  Alternatively there is a Pay and Display car park nearby if needed just off the Whitchurch Road B471 .
